This is the finding of a TCO study conducted by Evaluator Group. In it we looked at 3 virtualized environments (shown in graph below) designed to support 800 VMs. When compared to the previous generation of Intel ('Broadwell') servers the cost difference was dramatic, the Xeon Scalable CPU was half the cost per VM. When compared with an all-flash array (AFA) the cost differential was even greater. vSAN with internal SSD storage was less than 1/2 the cost of an AFA.
